Shoshana Birnbaum, Middle School Counselor

Shoshana Birnbaum is a Licensed Master of Social Work and completed her degree at Yeshiva University’s Wurzweiler School of Social Work. Previously, she received a Bachelor’s degree in Family Science and a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology, from Miami University. Shoshana has extensive training in crisis intervention and volunteered as a Crisis Counselor with the Crisis Text Line. She also has experience as a preschool teacher and ice skating instructor.

Shoshana believes that each child should be and feel supported on their unique educational journey, where they are able to continuously develop their identity as a student and as a person.

Shoshana enjoys working with Middle School students and feels this is a very special age, full of changes and opportunities. Middle School is a time where students begin connecting on a deeper level, both with their peers, as well as the world around them. This is also a time where students are learning more about who they are and what they want to be. The challenges and rewards of this age group remind her of the constant ebb and flow that life is.

Shoshana hopes to encourage her students to try new things, talk to new people, and keep growing in their identity. She aims to help each child understand that they are on their own path and embracing their journey will help them reach their goals.

Shoshana is looking forward to her first year at Mazel and has heard such positive things about the tight knit school community. She appreciates Mazel’s approach to the student as a whole, and is excited to capitalize on each of their strengths. She is also looking forward to collaboration with the other staff members, all of whom are passionate about creating a safe and healthy environment to foster Jewish education.
