Preschool Curriculum Scope and Sequence

Highlights of our PRE-NURSERY (2-3 year old) Curriculum

In PRE-NURSERY, we learn…

·        TO BE IN PRESCHOOL FOR THE FIRST TIME!!

·        Colors: Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Orange, Purple

·        Shapes: Circle, Square, Triangle

·        Counting: 1-5

·        Letters: The first Hebrew and English letter of our name and our friend’s names.  We learn to take pleasure and excitement in “letters” in general!

·        Motor Skills: Gluing, puzzles, building, using a writing tool, shaping dough, climbing stairs, riding a tricycle

·        Social Skills: Turn taking, comforting our friends

·        Language Skills: Expressing our needs verbally, expanding our vocabulary

·        School Skills: Participating in a class schedule, following directions, cleaning up, sitting in a circle, independent self-care, listening to an adult the first time

·        Thematic Units: “All About Me” [teaches self-image], “Our Neighborhood” [teaches inter-personal relationships], “Our World” [teaches appreciation for the natural environment], Seasons and Jewish Holidays

Highlights of our NURSERY (3-4 year old) Curriculum

In NURSERY, we review previous skills and learn…

·        Shapes: Rectangle, Oval, Diamond, Star

·        Numbers: Counting 1-15 by memorization (rote), recognizing and understanding the value of numerals 1-8

·        Letters: Recognizing the first 6 letters in the English and Hebrew alphabet, plus, the first Hebrew and English letter of our name and our friend’s names, understanding that letters make sounds.  We learn to take pleasure and excitement in “letters” in general!

·        Motor Skills: Cutting, gluing, puzzles, building, using a writing tool, drawing images, shaping dough, riding a tricycle

·        Social Skills: Turn taking, comforting our friends, using our words to express our needs to friends

·        School Skills: Participating in a class schedule, following multi-step directions, cleaning up, sitting in a circle, paying attention for longer periods of time, interacting appropriately with peers, independent self-care, listening to an adult the first time

·        Thematic Units: “All About Me” [teaches self-image], “Our Neighborhood” [teaches inter-personal relationships], “Our World” [teaches appreciation for the natural environment], Seasons and Jewish Holidays

Highlights of our PRE-K (4-5 year old) Curriculum

In PRE-K, we review previous skills and learn…

·        TO GET READY FOR KINDERGARTEN!!

·        Numbers: Counting 1-25+ by memorization (rote), recognizing and understanding the value of numerals 1-25, playing around with number values in different settings, introducing math concepts (money, time, fractions, measurement)

·        Letters: Recognizing the entire Hebrew and English alphabet, identifying beginning and end sounds, beginning reading simple three-letter words in English. We learn to take pleasure and excitement in “letters” in general!

·        Motor Skills: Cutting, gluing, puzzles, building, using a writing tool, drawing recognizable pictures, shaping dough, writing our names, labeling our pictures with words

·        Social Skills: Turn taking, comforting our friends, using our words to express our needs and feelings to friends

·        School Skills: Participating in a class schedule, following multi-step directions, cleaning up, sitting in a circle, paying attention for longer periods of time, interacting appropriately with peers, thinking about, asking and answering questions, independent self-care, listening to an adult the first time
